About Palakkad

Palakkad, or Palghat, is a city in Kerala, a state in southwestern India. The 18th-century Palakkad Fort has sturdy battlements, a moat and a Hanuman temple on its grounds.

Known for its unique architecture, music and the chariot festival Kalpathy has the distinction of being the only Heritage Village in Kerala. Visit the Sri Visalakshi Sametha Sri Vishwanatha Swamy temple and the village to get a glimpse into the life, culture, festivals and food of the famed Palakkad Brahmins.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve

Blooming with in rare varieties of medicinal plants, orchids and fauna, the Parambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary is hailed to be one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in South India.

Romance, wildlife or adventure holidays - the forests and wildlife of Parambikulam won't let down you. The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, a rich swathe of greenery brimming with wildlife, is a 285 square kilometer protected area cuddled in Palakkad.

Seetharkundu Viewpoint

Seethargundu Viewpoint is a famous point in the region. It is located on a cliff and offers a stunning view of the surroundings making it a perfect attraction for nature lovers and photographers. The dense forests all around the point are home to monkeys and other wild animals which one can spot, if lucky.

Adorned with Seetharkundu Waterfall falling from an altitude of 100 ft and flanked by paddy fields, you will also find the aroma of coffee in the air from coffee fields as well as tea plantations. Buses are easily available from Palakkad till Seetharkundu Viewpoint.

Silent Valley National Park

The Silent Valley National Park, with its lush green forests and beautiful views of the rich flora, is a popular destination for nature and wildlife lovers in Kerala. It was the British who coined the name 'Silent Valley' in 1847 because of a perceived absence of noisy Cicadas. Another story attributes the name to the Anglicization of Sairandhri and a third story, refers to the presence of many Lion-Tailed Macaques, Macaca silenus.
