About Idukki

This beautiful high range district of Kerala is geographically known for its Mountainous Hills and Dense Forests. For the people of Kerala, Idukki is always associated with Power Generation. About 66% of the State’s Power needs come from the Hydroelectric Power Projects in Idukki.

This rugged hill resort is known for its wildlife sanctuaries, beautiful bungalows, tea factories, rubber plantations and forests. Idukki's speciality lies in 650 feet long and 550 feet high arch dam across the Kuravan Kurathi mountain, which is the largest in the country.

Though it is the second-largest district in the region in terms of area, it has the lowest population density among the districts of Kerala. The urban population is higher than the rural population.

Idukki Arch Dam

Built across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills at a height of about 550 feet, the Idukki Arch Dam is an architectural genius, for the rugged terrain along which it is built. The natural beauty surrounding the dam is breath-taking.

You have now reached the Idukki Arch Dam, the second in the world and first of its kind in all of Asia. The sight itself is awe-inspiring, considering the sheer magnitude of the structure and the purpose it serves. Nearby lies the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary where one can seek solace in nature.

Kulamavu Dam

If you're a hiking or trekking junkie, Kulamavu is a hill-station that offers the perfect terrain for an adrenaline kick. With some amazing trekking trails, the place is also adorned with equally enchanting surroundings.

Paramda hill top is just 2km away from Kulamavu, where you can breathe fresh air and can enjoy a few moments, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. We can see the beauty of the lake in one side and other side is deep dent.

Anakarra

A small village in the Idukki district, Anakarra is just about 50 sq. km in area. Situated approximately 18 km from Idduki wildlife sanctuary on the Kumily-Munnar state highway, this place is famous for its spice plantations and picturesque waterfalls.

There are two factors that make Anakkara a tourist destination. One is its spice plantations, and the other the many picnic spots in and around Anakkara, suitable for tourists visiting the many prominent tourist destinations in the district such as Thekkady and Munnar
