About Alappuzha

Alappuzha, famous for its boat races, beaches, marine products and coir industry, is a world renowned backwater tourist destination of India.

Kuttanad is a land of lush paddy fields referred to as the 'Rice Bowl of Kerala' and it is one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level.

Krishnapuram Palace

Built during the reign of Travancore king Marthanda Varma, Krishnapuram Palace is a two-story structure crafted in traditional Kerala architectural style

The Krishnapuram Palace, as one of the finest and rarest examples of a typical Keralite-style architecture, known in the local language as Pathinarukettu, is complete with gabled roofs, narrow corridors and dormer windows. It is a miniature replica of Padmanabhapuram Palace, which was the headquarters of Travancore Rajas. It is also here that one can see India's largest mural painting.

Marari Beach

One of the great delights of the Malabar Coast, the Marari Beach is an idyllic serene beach. About 11 km from the city of Alleppey, this beach is a hotspot for fishing activity, deriving its name from the local fishing village Mararikulam.

Marari Beach is being increasingly preferred by travellers as an alternative to its more popular counterpart- Kovalam in the South.

Pathiramanal Island

Pathiramanal is a small island in Muhamma panchayat of Alappuzha district. The name Pathiramanal means 'midnight sand'.

The scenic beauty of both sides of the lake as well as that of the island is mind blowing. It is home to many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world.
